My years at OLR were the foundational period that forged both my character and my professional trajectory. OLR was more than a place of academic learning; it was where I developed the resilience and strategic mindset that define my career today. My teachers were instrumental in this journey, inspiring me to approach every difficulty with a problem-solving spirit and teaching me that the profound satisfaction of overcoming a challenge is the greatest reward for hard work. Beyond academics, the school’s nurturing atmosphere instilled in me the importance of being kind-hearted and helpful. These values allowed me to build a network of lifelong friends and remain the cornerstones of my professional interactions. One of my most significant early leadership experiences was serving as a member of the House Committee, where I was responsible for leading the cheering team during Sports Day. This role required far more than just enthusiasm; it was a complex exercise in coordination and communication. I was tasked with uniting students of different ages, managing rehearsals, and maintaining high morale throughout the heat of competition. This experience taught me how to motivate others under pressure and highlighted the importance of fostering a sense of belonging within a large group. Rather than focusing solely on the outcome, I learned that the strength of a leader is measured by their ability to bring people together toward a common goal. These formative experiences have been invaluable in my professional life within Hong Kong Customs. The lessons I learned at OLR—regarding empathy, organization, and the impact of a kind-hearted approach—have directly informed my decade-long commitment to union affairs. As the Chairlady of the Customs Union and a representative on the Disciplinary Services Consultative Council, my work is rooted in a desire to help my colleagues and advocate for their well-being. In my career in law enforcement and labor relations, I continue to apply the principles of integrity and compassion that I first practiced as a student. I am proud to say that the nurturing environment of my youth has empowered me to lead with a heart for service and to contribute meaningfully to my community.
